Youth Singers of Calgary fundraiser

Youth Singers of Calgary is reaching out for help to raise the remaining funds for renovations to the Performing Arts Youth Centre in the southeast.

The non-profit group has 500 performers from all age groups.

The organization has raised $1.2 million of the $1.8 million required.

Founder and Artistic Director Shirley Penner tells 660News, the campaign called “YSC 500 from 500” gives businesses a chance to contribute without making a big commitment.

Penner adds they are looking for funding from the federal government saying she hopes the performing arts will be recognized even more so now that Naheed Nenshi is Calgary’s new mayor.

Funding for performing arts was high on Nenshi’s mayoral platform.
