Congratulations to Alyssa Stoddard on her $1000 Ted Rogers Scholarship!
Jul 21 all-day

This year 660 NEWS, along with every Rogers radio station across the country, was fortunate enough to be able to grant a $1000 Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund grant to a student in their respective communities. We’re thrilled to announce Alyssa Stoddard as our winner!

Alyssa was nominated by Bernadette O’Kurley who wrote:

Alyssa is a wonderful young lady who excels in all she does. She has been her High School Student’s Union President and has initiated talent shows, culture fairs and community leaders to speak at her school. Alyssa started a community project in her school by getting students to make homemade cards and delivers them to cancer patients and their families at the Cross Cancer Hospital and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. She also made cards for the staff at these facilities as she knows the dedication and work that they do for their patients. She knows this first hand as she has had some health issues over the years but with determination and perseverance she has overcome them. Alyssa has been a dance teacher and basketball coach to young students. She has the wonderful ability to interact with young children and make them comfortable in their activities. Alyssa received the Premier Citizen Award and the High School Service Award at her school. These awards recognize her service to her school, community and society. Alyssa is able to associate with young and old. She spends time with her grandparents, great-grandmother, aunts and uncles and many friends. She has a warm smile, thoughtful words and a helping hand for everyone in need. Alyssa undertakes all tasks with determination, integrity, hard work and humility. She is a great leader, friend, co-worker and family member . She puts her whole heart into all she does and her accomplishments are well deserved. She is respected by her peers, community, teachers and business and political leaders. Alyssa is a great leader, role model and mentor in her community and school.

We are so excited for you Alyssa and wish you nothing but success! Congratulations!

All-Stars For Kids is a fundraising campaign in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area that runs each year throughout the month of August!

This year, long-time mentoring champions Gary Nissen and Qualico have increased the matching pool and generously offered to match all donations up to $125,000, for a grand total of $250,000.

All of the money raised is used to create and empower life-changing mentoring relationships for children and youth in and around Calgary who are facing adversity.

An impressive roster of Calgary’s top athletes have come on board to support this year’s campaign, including returning All-Stars Bo Levi Mitchell from the Calgary Stampeders; Sean Monahan from the Calgary Flames, Olympic Curler John Morris and Olympic Wrestler Jasmine Mian. New to this year’s campaign is Paralympian Snowboarder Michelle Salt!

These All-Stars, along with a larger group of community ambassadors, will use their “All-Star” profiles to help build awareness and drive donations. An exciting line up of community events and fundraising initiatives, hosted by local businesses, will provide the public with another means of participating in the campaign!

Perron’s hat trick lifts Blues to over Flames 5-3

Perron's hat trick lifts Blues to over Flames 5-3

ST. LOUIS – David Perron scored his fourth career hat trick, Alexander Steen had a goal and an assist, and the St. Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames 5-3 on Thursday night.

Joel Edmundson also scored and Brayden Schenn had three assists as the Blues won for the first time this season.

Jake Allen made 31 saves.

James Neal, Derek Ryan and Mikael Backlund scored for the Flames.

Mike Smith was pulled following the second period after allowing five goals on 24 shots.

Perron gave the Blues a 2-1 lead midway through the first period.

Edmundson, making his season debut after missing the first two games with a sore groin, made it 3-1 Blues with 2:38 left in the first, beating Smith high glove side.

Perron’s second goal early in the second made it 4-1.

Smith misplayed the puck behind the net, allowing Schenn to steal it and find Perron alone in front with an empty net.

Perron completed the hat trick with 35 seconds left in the second.

His last hat trick also came at Calgary’s expense on Oct. 22, 2016.

The Owen Hart Foundation is very pleased to present:  “An Evening with Alec Baldwin”

Date: Friday November 30, 2018

Location: Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

This event will mark the 19th Anniversary of The Owen Hart Foundation and the work they do within the Calgary community. This extraordinary evening will punctuate The Owen Hart Foundation’s 19 years of humanitarian service and commitment to helping those with limited resources, but with unlimited potential.

Over the past three decades, Alec Baldwin has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most gifted, hilarious, and controversial leading men. For his work in the role of Jack Donaghy on Tina Fey’s irreverent series 30 Rock, he won two Emmys, three Golden Globes, and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards.

In his new memoir Nevertheless, Baldwin transcends his public persona, opening up about facets of his life he has long kept private. Told with his signature candor, savvy, and wit, Nevertheless reveals an Alec Baldwin we have never fully seen before.

Cool 2 Carpool

IT’S SO #COOL2CARPOOL

We think it’s very cool to carpool and we’re sure you will too when you calculate the savings. Save on gas, save the environment and save huge on lift tickets! Plus, support local Bow Valley and Calgary charities!  $2.00 for every lift ticket issued will be donated to a great cause!

Cool 2 Carpool Days at Norquay. Save some cash and help out a charity too!

Here is how it works;

Skiers and boarders are encouraged to ride-share to the hill. Split the $50 per carload price between each passenger for your own individual lift ticket (each passenger must be legally seated!). So, round up your family and friends alike, fill the station wagon, mini van or coach to save big this winter! And, if you choose to take the shuttle from Banff, you’ll ski for only $10 per person!

• Upon arrival, before parking, each car will be issued a card with the number of tickets they are eligible to purchase for $50
• Each carload purchase must be made in a single transaction. (sorry no splitting payments)
• Passengers must be seated legally in vehicles with individual seatbelts to qualify. Norquay will not provide tickets to those that cram vehicles illegally.
• Guests who choose to ride the Norquay shuttle bus will be charged $10 for their lift ticket. (Norquay can not guarantee available seats on the shuttle)
• For those who Carpool with a season pass holder, come to guest services and your carload price will be adjusted accordingly.
• Deal can not be combined with any other offer or discount.

Mount Norquay; with a big mountain spirit and a friendly resort attitude.
