Calgary Hitmen ship Prokop to Oil Kings for pair of defencemen, draft picks

CALGARY — The Calgary Hitmen announced Wednesday they have traded Luke Prokop to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Prokop, who is playing in his fifth season in the WHL, has spent his entire pro career in Calgary after being drafted by the Hitmen in 2017.

In return, the Hitmen are receiving defencemen Keagan Slaney and Blake Heward. The Oil Kings are also sending over a second round draft pick in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft and a conditional fourth pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

“Keagan and Blake are excellent additions to our group as they both have WHL experience and provide added depth at the 18 year old age” said Hitmen General Manager Jeff Chynoweth in a release. “As we continue to develop our young group, they will be influential in our future growth and success.”

Slaney is currently in his fourth WHL season, while Heward is entering just his second season in the league.

The Hitmen are planning to have both Slaney and Heward practice with the team on Thursday afternoon.
