2021 Municipal Election breakdown: Ward 4

Losing that local feeling. Tara Overholt explores the issues facing residents in the Cambrian Heights community and ward 4.

CALGARY – Ward four is comprised of 17 different communities all with one major connection, a closeness to Nose Hill Park.

Daryl Connolly, President of the Cambrian Heights Community Association, says the big issues facing the city like taxes, police funding, and Green Line LRT ring true in the ward, but so too do really local issues.

“We’ve lost the YMCA, we don’t have a grocery store within our community, we have one coffee shop you can walk to. People like the local conveniences, but it’s hard to come by,” said Connolly.

Connolly says development is always a concern as it can bring more safety issues to residential streets, but they aren’t opposed to it. In fact, they would like to see it.

“More development of green spaces, more easing of civil regulations to support small businesses coming into the community or supporting people starting small businesses.”

Connolly also believes communication with their councillor is key.

Sean Chu was first elected in 2013 and is running again for re-election.
