Matt Stajan joins Calgary Hitmen coaching staff

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Matt Stajan is embarking on the next stage of his hockey career.

The long-time Calgary Flames forward is joining the Calgary Hitmen coaching staff.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to help these young men grow and develop at this early stage of their careers,” Stajan said Thursday.

He comes to the Hitmen with a plethora of time on the ice, spending nearly a decade here in Calgary after being traded from Toronto

“We are so pleased to be able to add a well-respected former player such as Matt Stajan to our coaching staff; his NHL playing experience is innumerable and will be a great asset to our club,” Hitmen general manager Jeff Chynoweth explained.

The club also announced former Flame and 1989 Stanley Cup winner Joel Otto is relinquishing his coaching staff role because of a hip injury that won’t allow him to take part in on-ice instruction.

He was with the team for 15 years.
