Calgary police looking for suspect in hate-motivated assault

CALGARY – Calgary police are looking for a suspect in a recent attack on a woman that they believe was hate-motivated.

Officers say shortly before 11 a.m. on June 25, a man aggressively approached a woman walking in the area of 1 Street and 8 Ave. SW.

He grabbed her arm and demanded she give him the coffee she was holding.

She tried to get away, but the man followed her, continuing to grab at her and push her around.

The man kept after her until she eventually dropped the coffee.

He shouted racial slurs at her until he eventually walked away.

Police are circulating CCTV shots of the suspect in hopes of identifying him.

he’s about 35 years old and has short brown or red hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket, a light-coloured t-shirt, and dark pants at the time.
