Trudeau lays into Conservatives during northeast Calgary stop

CALGARY — Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made a quick stop in Calgary on Thursday to support Calgary-Skyview candidate and incumbent city councillor George Chahal.

The rally was held at the Whitehorn Community Association where he talked about his government’s response to COVID-19, including their child care initiative and the importance of the environment in the years to come.

He also took some time to jab at Alberta Premier Jason Kenney.

“I know you see what happens when Conservatives make decisions that aren’t based on science, that aren’t based on the best interests of the most vulnerable,” he said. “Your Conservative government here cut supports for our healthcare heroes at the exact wrong time, when we are relying on our healthcare workers and frontline to do well, Jason Kenney was cutting.”

Trudeau also said Kenney blamed people in Calgary’s northeast communities for the rise in COVID-19 cases in Calgary.

“While Jason Kenney was making decisions that were hurting all of you, and blaming the people of Skyview for the pandemic, the reality is that Erin O’Toole and the federal Conservatives weren’t there to fight for you, he was too busy praising Jason Kenney to have your back. Well, that’s enough.”

Trudeau’s stay in Calgary was short as he left the northeast and hopped on a plane to Winnipeg.
