Police looking for owner of ‘significant’ amount of cash

CALGARY – Calgary police are hoping to find the owner of a large wad of cash that was found at a northwest mall almost two years ago.

Police say in November 2019, someone found a “large sum of money” at the North Hill Shopping Centre and turned it in to mall security.

The person who found the money called the police a few days later to follow up and see if the person who’d lost their money was found.

Turns out, no one had reported the money to police.

Police say after an investigation, they charged a former security guard who didn’t tell police about the cash.

The 50-year-old was charged with one count of theft over $5,000.

While investigators have tried to locate the owner of the money, they’ve been unsuccessful in identifying them.

Anyone with information about this money–or if you know someone who may have dropped the wad of cash–can call police.
