Alberta reports 407 new COVID-19 cases as hospitalizations rise to 176

CALGARY — Alberta reported 407 new cases of COVID-19 over the last day.

The new cases come after nearly 5,500 tests were completed — a positivity rate of around 7.4 per cent.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 5,627 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.

Hospitalizations saw a rise over the last day, with 176 people now in hospital, an increase of 15 from Monday. There are now 44 people in the ICU.

Three additional deaths were reported on Tuesday.

Calgary continues to lead the province in active cases of COVID-19 with 1,486. While Edmonton is not far behind at 1,163.

Meanwhile, Banff has the highest active cases per 100,000 people at 996 cases per 100,000.

Of those in hospital, 141 are unvaccinated, or about 80 per cent. While 39 of the 44 ICU admissions are unvaccinated.

On the vaccination front, 7,753 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered over the last day — 2,068 of which were first dose appointments.

To date, 76.9 per cent of the eligible population in the province have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 68 per cent are now fully vaccinated.
