Arrest made in what police believe was intentional hit-and-run

CALGARY – Police in Calgary have arrested a person believed to be responsible for an intentional hit-and-run involving a cyclist.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a man and a man were biking on Forest Road SE.

A truck was parked nearby.

As the cyclists approached, the truck turned around toward the pair and hit the woman. The man on his bike was able to dodge the truck.

The driver took off after hitting the woman, who was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

She is still in hospital but has been upgraded to serious condition.

Police were able to identify the truck involved, thanks to helpful witnesses at the scene and security cam footage, and later that day they were able to track down the driver.

He was taken into custody but was released after questioning without being charged.

Police believe the suspect and victim knew each other, but add that further investigation is needed.

If you have any information about this event, you can share it with Calgary police or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
