Canadian goalkeeper’s wiki page updated jokingly naming her defence minister

EDMONTON (CityNews) – Stephanie Labbé is Canada’s newest National Minister of Defense.

Well, not exactly.

Shortly after Canada’s women’s soccer team claimed the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, someone hurried over to Wikipedia and changed the keeper’s position to give her the title.

And while it’s not an official title, her teammates and Canadians are unlikely to disagree with the honour, as the Edmontonian was a wall for the Canadians during the Tokyo tournament.

Canada’s real national minister of defense, Harjit Sajjan, took to Twitter thanking Labbé for defending the flag and for bringing home the gold.

Labbé started five of Canada’s six matches. She was forced to sit out of Canada’s second group stage game against Chile due to an injury picked up in the opening match against Japan.

The 34-year-old was a key piece for Canada as she managed to save a pair of penalties in the quarter-finals against Brazil, before keeping the Americans off the scoreboard in the semis and making crucial saves in the penalty shootout against Sweden in the finals.

In her final Olympic game, Labbé added gold to her Olympic medal collection.
