The Insurance Bureau of Canada has released its report from the storm on July 2, when rain, hail, and strong winds pummelled the city.

The rain came down so hard that many downtown underpasses were flooded while there were also reports of sewer backups in basements, and a damaged gas line.

Rob de Pruis with the IBC says there’s actually been a handful of expensive natural disasters or storms in Calgary.

“In 2013, there was the flooding that impacted Calgary. Last year was the hail storm,” he recalled.

“Even back in 1991, there was a hailstorm that impacted Calgary that is the tenth costliest insured event in our nation’s history.”

The hail storm last year came with a $1.2 billion price tag.
