‘Like a bad cold’: Calgarian contracts COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated

CALGARY — A Calgary woman is sharing her story after contracting COVID-19, even though she had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Nicole Tighe had a headache on Sunday and then she started getting cold-like symptoms so she went and got tested.
She got her test result the same day and was surprised to find out she had the virus because she had her second shot about a month ago.
“I was actually … if I was feeling better, I was going to see my baby nephew and niece this weekend. I definitely wanted to make sure that I didn’t have COVID and then to my surprise, tested positive for COVID after two vaccines,” said Tighe.

She says it feels like a really bad cold.
“I am definitely really tired, I haven’t lost sense of taste or smell, just kind of stuffed-up, sore throat, tired, that kind of thing.”
Tighe says she doesn’t understand the justification for lifting isolation requirements in the province come Aug. 16.
“I don’t see who it benefits or the data supporting it. I, and people like me who care about the well-being of others, are going to stay home but I’m also in a privileged position. It’s just frustrating because it almost seems like they just want us to accept COVID.”
