CALGARY — Calgary fire crews were busy Tuesday morning after a pair of fires broke out in the city’s southwest quadrant.
Around 9 a.m., multiple calls were made to 911 about a commercial fire at a business in the 5700 block 3 Street SW, just east of Macleod Trail.
Upon arrival, crews saw large amounts of smoke and flames coming from the front of the building.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire, but not before it claimed the lives of two cats within the business.
The lone occupant inside the building was able to escape before crews arrived and was taken to hospital with minor smoke inhalation.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of that fire.
Shortly after, around 11:30 a.m., there were reports of a fire in Calgary’s Beltline, along 12 Avenue SW.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the building and worked to tackle the fire.
Crews were able to control this fire not long after arrival.
Investigators remained on scene through Tuesday evening and are working to determine a cause.
