CALGARY – Calgary police have charged a man in domestic violence cases spanning a decade and multiple partners.

Officers say this past May, a woman came forward to report abuse from a previous relationship.

She also shared the names of two other women who were believed to have been with and abused by the same man.

Police say the women in these relationships were physically and sexually assaulted, and the violence against them left the women with permanent damage.

“The level of violence exhibited by the alleged offender is significant,” said Staff Sergeant Vince Hancott in a release.

“Each victim is being supported through this difficult time.”

A 39-year-old Calgary man has been charged with 11 counts of assault, three counts of assault with a weapon, four counts of sex assault, and two counts of uttering threats.

Hancott says Alberta has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the country.

If you or someone you know is the victim of domestic violence, you can call 911 or the Family Violence Information Line, which is available 24/7 at 403-234-SAFE (7233).
