Alberta identifies 81 new COVID-19 cases, active infections rise to 649

CALGARY — Alberta reported 81 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The new cases come after the completion of 6,479 tests — a positivity rate of around 1.3 per cent.

Active cases also saw a slight increase, with 649 active infections in the province.

While active cases and newly reported infections rose over the last day, hospitalizations saw a slight decrease.

There are now 95 people in hospital, 27 of which are in the ICU.

There were no additional deaths reported on Wednesday.

As for vaccinations, the province administered nearly 20,000 doses over the last day, 2,616 of which were first dose appointments.

More than 5.1 million vaccine doses have been administered to date.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 74.9 per cent of the eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 60.7 per cent are now fully vaccinated.
