ASIRT investigating after man shot by police on Calgary CTrain

CALGARY — The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after a man was shot by police on a CTrain Wednesday afternoon.
Around 1:40 p.m., a Calgary Transit employee told police there was a man on one of the trains who appeared to have a gun in his lap.
The train was held at Sirocco Station in the southwest and passengers were evacuated by police.
Police then held the suspect in the train car while the tactical unit was called out to try and safely resolve the situation.

Around three hours late, at 4:30 p.m., police say the situation escalated and the man was shot by one of the officers. He was then treated by Tactical Emergency Medical Services before being taken to hospital in serious condition.
The area is now being contained as ASIRT investigates.

At this time, police say there is nothing that indicates this incident is related to the fatal shooting that occurred in the southwest around the same time.
