Extreme heat causing more troubles with vehicles: AMA

By 660 News Staff

CALGARY — Just like when it is bitterly cold outside, some vehicles are having problems coping with the extreme heat.

Whether it be the tire pressure problems or overheating engines, there are lots of things to look for before hitting the road in these temperatures.

Alberta Motor Association (AMA) Chief Mechanic Randy Loyk says tow trucks are responding to more vehicles in trouble due to the heatwave, and maintenance is key during days like these.

“We see a lot of problems with cooling systems, so make sure that the bugs are free and clear of the radiator and all that poplar fuzz is cleaned out of your radiator before heading out,” Loyk said.

He also advises people to make sure to check their antifreeze levels.

“Just take a visual inspection of that little clear tank underneath the hood of the vehicle and ensure your cooling system is topped up.”

Loyk also added that many people can experience tire problems because many forget to check their wheels from time to time.

Tires should have a decent tread with no cracking on the sidewalls and should be properly inflated.
