SADDLE LAKE — RCMP in northeast Alberta have charged a 14-year old boy in the shooting of a 12-year-old boy.

On Friday, RCMP were called to the Saddle Lake Cree Nation, about 80 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, after reports of a young boy being shot.

The boy was taken to a local hospital and then flown by STARS to another hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

He remains in hospital in stable condition.

The 14-year-old boy, who is from St. Paul, has been charged with aggravated assault and has been released from custody to appear in court on July 8.

At this time there aren’t many details about the motive of the shooting, but RCMP do believe it was targeted.
