More than 1M Albertans vaccinated with one dose already enrolled in $1M lottery

EDMONTON (CityNews) — Nearly 40 per cent of all Albertans who have received a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine have signed up for the province’s first $1-million vaccine lottery.

As of Wednesday morning, more than a million Albertans signed up for the lottery announced by the UCP government last week.

The “Open for Summer Vaccine Lottery” was designed to encourage more residents to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The first $1-million lottery draw will be held likely at the end of June or early July — on the day restrictions lift in Alberta.

Two additional $1-million draws will be held at the end of August and end of September for those who have had two doses of the vaccine.

Alberta is not the first jurisdiction to unveil incentives to make residents roll up their sleeves for a vaccine shot. Earlier this month, Manitoba announced it would be holding two lottery draws this summer with $100,000 prizes and $25,000 youth scholarships.
