Calgary police working to better communicate with deaf, hard-of-hearing community

CALGARY – The Calgary Police Service is working to make communication better with those who suffer from hearing loss.

Deaf and Hear Alberta has partnered with the service to provide officers with the tools to better connect with more than 1.2 million people in the province who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

The two organizations ran a program during May which provided officers with communication cards that had commonly used icons and symbols to assist.

They have also been working on a number of other projects over the past several months and will continue to make it more accessible for the hearing loss community.
