Avalanche victims were experienced rock climbers, say families

JASPER – Mounties have confirmed the identities of two men who died in a weekend avalanche in Jasper National Park.
They say the men, a 28-year-old and a 30-year-old died while climbing on Mount Andromeda in the Columbia Icefield on Sunday.

Police aren’t releasing identities but families of the victims say Andrew Abel from Innisfail and Nathaniel Johnson of Cochrane and Red Deer were experienced rock climbers and the best of friends.
They say Abel and Johnson died doing something they loved.
Jasper RCMP is thanking those that helped in the rescue efforts Sunday, including Parks Canada, STARS, and two private helicopter companies.
