Calgary could break temp records this week, heat warning in effect

Calgarians can expect high temperatures through the rest of the week.

CALGARY – It’ll be scorching hot in Calgary for the next few days, with sunny highs ranging from 28 to 35 degrees.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the city on Tuesday afternoon.

Meteorologist Michael Kuss says we don’t see weather this warm this early in the summer too often.

“This type of heat this time of year, it’s pretty rare. It’s not totally unprecedented, however,” he explained.

“We do have record highs in the 30s even late May and definitely through June and that includes tomorrow and the next day where we are expecting daytime highs up near records–31, 32 degrees.”

He says the record temperature Wednesday is 31.1 degrees and tomorrow’s high is forecasted at 31 degrees.

Thursday’s high is expected to hit 32 degrees.

“The record for Thursday is 32.2 [degrees] set in 1922–so that one’s been around for almost 100 years.”

The warning is expected to be in effect until at least Friday.
