More dr.’s offices in Alberta to offer COVID-19 vaccine

EDMONTON – You’ll soon be able to roll up your sleeve for a COVID-19 shot at your local doctor’s office.

The province announced Friday that the pilot that currently offers vaccines at a handful of doctor’s offices in Alberta is being expanded and another 60 offices will be added to the list.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro said in a release that this will help more Albertans access the province’s vaccine supply.

“We know that physicians are a trusted healthcare provider and this will help reach many people who are eagerly waiting for their chance to get the vaccine,” he said.

Dr. Ernst Greyvenstein, the Calgary zone’s PCN physician lead, says this will also help some people feel less hesitant to get the vaccine as they can talk it over with a doctor they trust.

“We’re delighted that many more Albertans now have the option of going to their trusted family doctor to discuss COVID-19 vaccination and potentially receive the vaccine in their local clinic. Family physicians have a unique and critical role to play in helping to educate patients and address vaccine hesitancy,” he said.

Alberta has doled out over 2.6 million vaccines.
