VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Canada Post says a cyberattack on one of its suppliers has compromised information about nearly a million customers.
Canada Post says it learned of the malware attack on Commport Communications on May 19, adding it affects 44 of its large business customers. The ripple effect means hackers may have stolen information from about 950,000 customers that did business with those firms.

The postal service says Commport Communications is an “electronic data interchange solution supplier,” which is used to “manage the shipping manifest data of large parcel business customers.” It says shipping manifests usually include sender and receiver contact information, such as names and addresses.
It says 97 per cent of shipping manifest files include the name and address of the receiving customer, and the remaining ones contain an email address and/or phone number.
According to Canada Post, there is no evidence that the hackers would have accessed any financial information.
