More and more Canadians willing to get COVID vaccine: Abacus Data poll

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) — A new poll from Abacus Data suggests more people are willing to be vaccinated against COVID-19 — with the number of people hesitant to receive the shot at a new low.

The latest data shows that the number of people who’ve already had a shot or will take one as soon as they are able is at 71 per cent — up from 63 per cent a few weeks ago.

The report shows that a total of only 29 per cent show some measure of hesitancy with 16 per cent saying they will be vaccinated but prefer to wait longer. Five per cent say they would prefer not to get the shot as eight per cent say they will never be vaccinated.

“The major factors influencing hesitancy are concern that the long-term impacts of the vaccines may not be known and worries about the risk of blood clots,” the study reads.

About 85 per cent of Canadians say they would be comfortable taking the Pfizer vaccine, 71 per cent for Moderna, 47 per cent for Johnson and Johnson and 40 per cent for Astra Zeneca.

“A rising number of those who are hesitant indicate that they would prefer not to take an Astra Zeneca shot and wait instead for the availability of a different vaccine.”

However, hesitancy levels are different across the country.

“Those exhibiting more hesitancy than average include Albertans, men under 45, those with less formal education and those who self-describe as right of centre on the political spectrum.”
