Alberta reports 1,195 new COVID-19 cases, administers 55K+ new vaccine doses

CALGARY (CityNews) — Younger Albertans continue to get vaccinated in large numbers as the province registered an additional 1,195 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.
In a series of tweets, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the province also registered 383 new cases of variants of concern and saw three more people die as a result of the novel coronavirus.
The 1,195 new cases were on 12,926 tests for a positivity rate of 9.2 per cent.

Many more young Albertans received the COVID-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours. More than 26 per cent of Albertans aged 25-29 years old and nearly 23 per cent of Albertans aged 20-24 years old have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
A total 55,564 new vaccine doses were administered in the province.
There are 686 people in hospital including 178 in intensive care.
And we're continuing to see some big growth in numbers of younger Albertans being vaccinated.

Hinshaw ended her series of tweets by encouraging Albertans to enjoy the warm weekend by spending time outdoors with their households while following rules.
