CALGARY (660 NEWS) —  A man in his 30s was taken to Foothills Hospital with serious burns after a fire broke out at a multifamily home in Calgary’s northwest on Wednesday.

Around 11:15 a.m., fire crews responded to the fire along Ranchlands Way N.W., and upon arrival,  saw a large volume of smoke and flames coming from the main floor of the building.

The man had gotten himself out of the home but was suffering from serious burns.

Stuart Brideaux with EMS says he is recovering in hospital, but aside from the burns, there are always worries when it comes to smoke inhalation.

“There are concerns for that as well given the nature of the more confined area, but as well, in all instances, anyone that’s been in the environment of a house fire, or residential fire in this case, smoke inhalation is always a concern.”

Crews managed to knock the fire down and contain the damage mostly to just one condo.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
