Man wanted for second-degree murder in relation to April stabbing near LRT tracks

Police have issued a warrant for second degree murder in Downtown Calgary and are now looking for 34 year old Christopher Mathers, who has apparently left town but has ties to BC, Ontario and Nova Scotia.

CALGARY – Calgary police have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for a suspect in a deadly stabbing at a C-train station near the Kerby Centre.

Around 6:20 p.m. on April 15, two people got into a fight near the train tracks on 11 Street SW.

One man, Russell Younker, 49, was stabbed and died as a result.

Police believe the suspect and attacker knew each other and the April stabbing was a follow-up to a previous incident.

Now, thanks to a tip from the public, detectives were able to identify a suspect as Christopher Mathers, 34, who is now wanted on a charge of second-degree murder.

Police tried to locate Mathers but found out he had recently moved from his listed address and may have left Calgary.

Mathers is about 6’1″ and 220 pounds. he has brown hair and blue eyes.

He is believed to have connections in London, Ont., Halifax, and B.C.

Investigators also want to speak to a witness to the stabbing, a man who was wearing a blue hoodie with a red logo on the front, a baseball hat, sunglasses, and a backpack.

Anyone with information on Mathers or the witness police seek should call CPS or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
