Alberta identifies 1,597 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate of 11.4%

While new cases remain high there is some change in r value.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Alberta has identified 1,597 new cases of COVID-19 on nearly 14,000 tests, giving the province a positivity rate of 11.4 per cent over the last day.

There are currently 25,438 active cases of the virus in Alberta.

There are now 690 people in hospital, a 22 person increase from the day prior, with 158 now in the ICU.

An additional seven deaths were reported on Monday.

As for the regional breakdown of COVID-19 cases, Lac La Biche County continues to hold its spot at the top of the list for active cases per 100,000 people.

As for Alberta’s vaccine numbers, an additional 27,918 doses were administered over the last day.

This comes as the province opened up vaccine eligibility to those 12 years of age and older, and the younger generation delivered.

As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Premier Jason Kenney said 48,000 Albertans had already signed up for their appointment, with that number expected to significantly increase as the day goes on.
