ST. ALBERT (CityNews) — Fire crews from three different stations are battling a large fire that erupted at a Citadel Mews seniors residence in northern St. Albert.

Flames could be seen kilometres away as the roof of the building burned.

Quick action was taken to evacuate seniors and staff from the burning care home, with efforts then turning to get people out of nearby buildings.

RCMP say the call for the fire came in at about 8 p.m., with community buses assisting with transporting residents to a muster point in a nearby Costco parking lot.

The St. Albert Alliance Church has also reportedly opened its doors to house displaced residents for the time being.

There have been no reports of a loss of life at this point.
