More Metis vaccine clinics planned for Alberta following success of Edmonton site

EDMONTON – More than 1,300 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been put into the arms of Metis Albertans at a clinic in Edmonton over four days in March.
The clinic, run by the Metis Nation of Alberta (MNA), is the first clinic to be led by a Metis government in Canada.
“The success of the clinic highlighted that the MNA has a role in leading and administering health services,” said Reagan Bartel, MNA Director of Health, in a release.
“After a significant amount of work to advocate for equitable vaccine access for Métis Albertans, we are so proud of the turnout. Keeping our citizens safe and healthy is a priority for us.”
The body says it is currently waiting for approval from provincial health officials but similar clinics are in the works in the north and south regions.
