CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Many people have taken to social media saying they are angry that the new Kananaskis country fees are not being applied to the popular McLean Creek area.
Shaun Peter with Bragg Creek and Kananaskis Outdoor Recreation says people must pay to hike or bike in K-Country while off-highway vehicles can rip up the forest in McLean Creek for free.

He says he learned it was excluded in the plans because of other fees that are coming down the pipe for OHVs there, but not until the fall.
“They said they are concerned about the jewel of Alberta and Kananaskis country being trashed by excesses visitors but every day we see Mclean Creek get trashed, so if they really care about Mclean Creek that fee would’ve been first on the table.”
On Twitter, Environment Parks Minister Jason Nixon confirmed that day users will not have to pay a trial fee until the fall, but people will have to pay for random camping starting on June 1.
1/3 Since its inception, K-Country has provided different recreational opportunities and set aside land for user groups. It has land set aside that limits interference between uses. Off-highway vehicles are excluded from every area in K-Country except the McLean Creek OHV PLUZ.
