Some people in the northeast community were asked to shelter in place after shots were fired in the area Thursday morning.
Police originally got a call Thursday around 5:50 a.m. regarding property damage on Pineland Road near 60 St. N.E.
As they were investigating, police suspected the person involved in the damage may have been armed.
Huge police presence in Pineridge NE. Multiple units have a section cordoned off and now Tac just showed up. Was told by one officer if we hear any shots to head for cover immediately #yyc #calgary @660NEWS @citynewscalgary pic.twitter.com/d92hpNX3M6

As of 11:50 Thursday morning, police confirmed that multiple shots were fired and asked nearby residents to shelter in place.
Officers secured the scene and have been dealing with the suspect barricaded in a home.
In a release at 7 p.m., police say attempts to force the man out of the residence have failed and entering the house presents significant risk to officers and the man inside.
They add, the man’s motivation in this incident is still unknown and the goal is to negotiate his peaceful surrender to officers so he can be safely taken into custody.
“We completely understand the impact this situation is having on the surrounding community and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible,” said Superintendent Ryan Ayliffe with the Calgary Police Service. “Our primary goal is always to preserve the life and safety of the public, people in crisis and our officers. We ask for continued patience as we try to bring this to a peaceful end.”
“We will let residents know through the media and social media as soon as it is safe to return home and stop sheltering in place.”
Officers from across the Service are working together to keep citizens nearby safe and resolve the incident. We also have support from the Calgary Fire Department and Calgary Transit, which has provided buses to shelter citizens who cannot return home as a result of the shelter in place order.
