One person arrested for allegedly tearing down fence outside GraceLife church last week

RCMP has arrested one person for mischief after the fence was torn down at GraceLife Church last Sunday.

EDMONTON (CityNews) — RCMP say they have arrested one person in connection with the protest that took place outside GraceLife church on April 11.

Parkland RCMP say they located someone outside the church on Sunday morning who was allegedly involved in taking down the large metal fence surrounding the property last week.

According to a release, the officers arrested the individual for “mischief and obstruction.”

During a protest outside the church grounds last Sunday, a handful of demonstrators tore down the fencing that was installed by Alberta Health Services on April 7.

Shortly after that, some protesters helped police repair the fence.

RCMP say the individual in question was released under the condition they do not return to GraceLife church property.

The person is also expected to make a court appearance at the end of June. Charges have not been laid.

Police say they are continuing their investigation and are attempting to locate other individuals who may have committed criminal activities outside the church on April 11.

AHS has said the church will remain closed until it shows it will comply with public-health measures meant to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
