Calgary police sends officer to Street Church over COVID-19 concerns

Calgary police were called in to assist a health inspector at a southeast church Saturday for concerns over COVID-19.

CALGARY (CityNews) – Police were called to a congregation in southeast Calgary on Saturday over concerns people in attendance were not adhering to public-health rules.

Alberta Health Services and Calgary Bylaw services were joined by a Calgary police officer at the Street Church on 26 Ave. S.E.

Police say the organizer of the gathering was “uncooperative with the health inspector,” and was shouting at them to leave the premises, which police say they did one minute after entering.

In a statement posted on Twitter, police note that any enforcement activity will be up to their partner agencies and that no tickets were given at the time.

Places of worship are currently limited to 15 per cent of fire code capacity for in-person attendance, with mandated mask use and physical distancing between households.
