CALGARY (CityNews) — Roughly 100 protesters from two separate groups converged on Calgary’s Olympic Park on Sunday afternoon.

On one side, Black Lives Matter protesters rallied to denounce hate speech and racism.

They made their voices heard by chanting various slogans. They played loud music and waved banners and signs like “No Hate,” “Indigenous Lives Matter” and “Masks Save Lives.”

In a poster shared across social media, organizers of the protest said the goal of the rally was to “stand against white supremacy, homophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia and transphobia.”

On the other side, anti-restriction protesters also showed up in large numbers and tried to drown out the BLM demonstrators with their own chants.

A heavy police presence separated the two groups by forming a wall between them.
