Fire bans in effect around southern Alberta

Dry conditions have led to several fire bans around Alberta, with Calgary so far avoiding the list.

CALGARY (CityNews) – Dry conditions have led to several fire bans across southern Alberta.

Open burning is not allowed in Rockyview County, Cochrane, Ghost Lake, and Wheatland County.

The bans follow a series of grass fires across the southern part of the province.

On Thursday, a huge grass fire near Cochrane forced some people to evacuate.

There was also a large wildfire near Symons Valley Ranch, which saw roads closed in the community of Sage Hill for several hours through the evening.

Last weekend, several grass fires south of Calgary led to the evacuation of the village of Carmangay.

There is currently no fire ban in effect for the City of Calgary.
