Bookings for next phase of Alberta’s vaccine rollout open Tuesday

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The next phase of Alberta’s vaccine rollout plan is expected to begin Tuesday.

Alberta Health said that more than 945,000 Albertans with underlying health conditions are eligible to book their COVID-19 vaccination as part of Phase 2B.

This phase includes cancer patients, transplant recipients, individuals with disabilities, dementia and other conditions that put them at higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19.

“This is great news for vulnerable Albertans and another big step forward in our vaccine rollout,” said Health Minister Tyler Shandro. “Anyone with these serious health conditions will now be eligible for vaccines that give effective protection from COVID-19. We’re ramping up our vaccinations as fast as the incoming vaccine supply allows.”

Starting Tuesday, Albertans with these underlying health conditions born in 1963 or earlier will be able to book their appointments through participating pharmacies.

Starting April 5, those born in or before 1959 will be eligible to book their vaccines while additional birth years in Phase 2B will become eligible as more vaccines arrive.

Alberta Health still anticipates that all adults in Alberta will receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of June.
