ATB Financial shutting down ten Alberta branches, five in Calgary

ATB is closing five locations in Calgary as more customers move to online and digital banking.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — ATB Financial will be shutting down ten branches in the province, five of which will be in Calgary.

The bank says the closures are in response to more of their customers using digital services to do their banking, as opposed to physically heading into a branch.

The locations listed as closing within Calgary are Douglas Glen, Walden, Creekside, Rocky Ridge, and West Spring.

Four locations in Edmonton, as well as one in Grande Prairie, will round off the list.

“At ATB, our customers and team members are at the centre of everything we do and this decision is not made lightly,” said ATB in a statement to 660 NEWS. “A closure is only done after extensive consideration of many factors including the frequency of in-branch transactions, number of customers, and customer growth. An integral part of deciding to close a location is knowing we can continue to support our customers, both virtually and at other ATB locations nearby.”

ATB says 39 employees have been moved to new roles, but 13 people are being let go due to other changes.
