City unveils plan to redevelop Midfield Trailer Park

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The City of Calgary is unveiling plans to redevelop the site of a former trailer park in the northwest.

Residents of the old Midfield Trailer Park were forced out of their homes in February 2018 after the city ordered the closure of the area due to deterioration on the infrastructure and sewer lines.

The city plans to develop the land along 16 Ave near Deerfoot Trail into high-density homes and businesses and building highrise condos and apartments with some affordable housing.

The new project will be known as Midfield Heights.

Residents of the former trailer park were locked in a years-long dispute with the City of Calgary after they were told to leave by September 2017.

That date however was pushed back after a judge heard from residents who had filed a class-action lawsuit against the closure in November.

Less than a month later, the judge upheld the eviction notice and the final residents were asked to leave in the following two months.
