Man charged in trafficking and exploitation of underage girls

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Investigators have charged a man believed to be responsible for the trafficking, sexual assault and exploitation of two underage girls.

Following a lengthy investigation lasting several months, police learned a 15-year-old girl had been recruited to work for the accused man between March 2020 and February 2021.

Police discovered the man set up online advertisements for sexual services with the girl in exchange for money.

Detective Amy Spence with the Child Abuse Unit said this is a very real issue in Calgary and across Canada.

“I do believe it’s hard to pinpoint an exact statistic because I do believe there’s a lot of victims out there that we don’t know about. I do think that more victims, with the support they’re receiving not just by the police but by the community supports, are feeling a lot more comfortable coming forward.”

It’s believed the man arranged transportation to several locations where these acts took place. The girl did not know of the pre-arranged meetings, other than the types of sexual acts she was expected to perform.

Throughout the investigation, police learned this same man engaged in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl and set up encounters for her with other men in exchange for money, drugs and alcohol.

Ahmed Hassan Duale, 33, has been charged with a number of offences relating to sexual assault and trafficking of persons under the age of 18. He is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
