Alberta reports 47 new cases of B.1.1.7 variant

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — Over the course of the past 24 hours, 47 new cases of the B.1.1.7 variant have been identified in Alberta.
Along with variant cases, 399 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the province.

Two new deaths have also been reported.
At this time, 254 people are in hospital fighting COVID-19 with 37 people in the ICU.
As for schools, there are active alerts or outbreaks in 259 schools, good for about 11 per cent of schools in the province.
On the vaccine front, 309,000 shots have been administered to date in the province, with over 91,000 Albertans fully vaccinated with two doses.

Wednesday marked the first day for AstraZeneca bookings for those that are eligible.
Over 11,500 Albertans have already booked in to get the shot as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bookings for the AstraZeneca vaccine continue Thursday with those born in 1958 able to book as well as Indigenous peoples born in 1975.
The province is offering the vaccine to Albertans one birth year at a time starting. The vaccine booking site opened Wednesday for those born in 1957 and Indigenous people born in 1972.
