Extreme cold returns to Calgary for long weekend

CALGARY (CityNews) — After a brief respite Friday, Environment Canada has reissued an extreme cold warning for Calgary and other parts of the province.

Temperatures in areas around Alberta are forecasted to dip below -40 C over the long weekend as cold air sits in mostly clear skies.

The weather warms up slightly for Valentine’s Day, but Environment Canada is anticipating extremely cold wind chills to return to the eastern side of Alberta Sunday evening.

Anyone out in the cold weather is advised to dress appropriately and layer up as frostbite can occur within minutes.

This cold snap is expected to last through to Monday.
