Teenage girl expected to survive after shooting in Toronto district of North York

NORTH YORK – Toronto Police say a 14-year-old girl is expected to survive after getting shot in the head in a North York apartment building.

Police responded to calls of a shooting on Stong Court in the area of Jane and Finch just before 3:00 a.m. EST Friday morning.

Upon arrival they found a teenage girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Police say she is a resident of the building and confirm she was shot inside her own residence.

The girl was transported to The Hospital of Sick Children (SickKids) with life-threatening injuries but is expected to survive.

Police say there were several people in the apartment at the time of the incident including multiple young people and at least one adult.

Many neighbours in the building say they were woken up to the sounds of screaming and running in the halls.

Police are speaking with the young people who were in the apartment at the time of the shooting and are searching for a group of men who fled the building on foot after the incident.

No suspect descriptions have been released.
