CP Rail freight train derails in Crowsnest Pass

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — A CP Rail freight train derailed in Crowsnest Pass just east of the B.C. and Alberta border Friday evening.

At least 20 CP cars left the track near Crowsnest Lake near Coleman, Alberta, according to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

“The occurrence was reported to the Transportation Safety Board by the Canadian Pacific Railway and we are assessing,” TSB said in a statement.

“The TSB is not planning to deploy at this time.”

The train was carrying potash goods when it derailed around 5 p.m. Friday.

“There were no dangerous goods involved. There were no injuries to the crew,” CP spokeswoman Salem Woodrow said in an email.

“CP immediately deployed resources to the site.”

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
