Investigators make arrest in 13-year-old murder case

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Police have made an arrest in a 13-year-old murder case thanks to advancements in forensics.

In August 2007, Tara-Anne Landgraf was found stabbed to death on Burns Ave in the southeast community of Ramsay.

Investigators believe she had been sexually assaulted.

A DNA profile was identified at the time, but police weren’t able to make a match through the national databank.

Investigators took a fresh look at the evidence in late 2019 and tracked down the accused, a 29-year-old who was 16 when the stabbing took place.

It’s believed that Landgraf and the suspect did not know each other prior to the attack.

“We never stop in our pursuit of justice for murder victims. As technology advances, we are continuously reviewing unsolved homicides to see how new techniques can be applied to find new leads and bring answers to families of murder victims,” said Sgt. Colin Chisholm.

“Investigators have been in touch with Tara-Anne’s loved ones and they are relieved after all this time to have answers in her tragic death.”

The accused man was arrested in Edmonton last Friday and will appear in court on Feb. 16.
