Is ‘The Bachelorette’ heading to Jasper? Rumours swirl after mass Fairmont booking

JASPER – After it was confirmed that every single one of the 446 rooms at the Jasper Park Lodge was booked out, people began to wonder who is behind the mass booking.

Hotel management isn’t disclosing who will be staying at the well-known Rocky Mountain retreat from Feb. 23 to Apr. 29, but many Albertans are suspicious that the Bachelorette might be filming there.

The speculation mainly stems from a tweet from a blogger.

But locals like Kim Stark are also buying in.

“My first reaction was, you mean there are going to be how many single men over there? And one single woman? That sounds great,” joked Stark, who owns a bakery in Jasper.

During a pandemic year, this could be good news for the town of Jasper, where some businesses like Stark’s Bear’s Paw Bakery have been struggling with the decrease in tourists.

“From a business perspective, any time more people can come to Jasper — especially in these times — fantastic. I don’t know if they’ll leave the property. I don’t know with COVID and restrictions, if there will be people coming to town, that would be great.”

CityNews reached out to Jasper town officials and its tourism office, but both stayed mum about the big news.

“The municipality of Jasper does not have any information on the private booking at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge,” reads a statement.

“At this time, the information that’s out there is just rumours and speculation. If or when the rumours become official we can absolutely reconsider.”

On Tuesday, Alberta’s top doctor even fielded questions about the Bachelorette’s rumoured location, but did not confirm those rumors are true.

As for Stark, just the news of the Bachelorette coming to town is good press.

“It’s exciting, it’s fun,” said Stark. “It’s a nice little ray of sunshine in a time when people are struggling.”

In the meantime, Alberta remains under strict lockdown measures, with Albertans being asked to stay home when possible.

The Bachelorette airs on Citytv.
