Warnings are also in place for Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Kananaskis, Canmore and Three Hills.
The weather system making its way through Calgary has also brought rain which as meteorologist Michael Kuss explains isn’t out of the ordinary for January.
“Rain in January around Calgary is unusual for sure but it happens frequently enough to make it into the records. We average a tenth of a millimetre of rain for January. The last significant rainfall was 1.7 mm that we recorded January 7, 2019.”
Kuss added the record for January rainfall was set back in 1902 at 7.6 mm.
Environment Canada has also issued a freezing rain warning for Edmonton and snowfall warnings for Highway 93 in Banff from Lake Louise and Jasper to the Saskatchewan River Crossing.
