Royal Canadian Air Force to conduct flypast for fallen police officer

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will pay tribute to a fallen Calgary police officer on Saturday.

Two CF-18 Hornets are scheduled to do a flypast to honour Sgt. Andrew Harnett who was killed while on duty on New Year’s Eve.

The flypast will take place over the Calgary Police Service headquarters in the northeast at around 3:00 p.m.

The RCAF said in a release that the jets will fly over the memorial service at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.

Flypasts conducted by the CF-18 Hornets are carefully planned and controlled for public safety and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions.

The funeral for Harnett is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and is by invite only due to COVID-19 restrictions.

However, a procession after the ceremony will be livestreamed on this website.
